In search of red lipstick, among other things
Links to read this week, from heavy to not so heavy fashion and culture news
Hi! A little introduction if this is the first time you’re receiving this letter: this newsletter is basically a longer version of a text message to a friend—links to articles, plus thoughts about a few things I can’t stop thinking about. It is made for you to easily read during your commute to work or your coffee break. More about it here.
Due to lack of sleep, this letter is slightly shorter than the last few ones…
Links of the week
A return to girlhood
Not that the ‘trend’ ever went away, but this season, it seems like a good time to stay in touch with your girlhood. Simone Rocha's Fall/Winter 2025 collection, inspired by The Tortoise and the Hare, blends elements of innocence and rebellion. Similarly, N21's Fall 2025 collection draws inspiration from Sofia Coppola's films, notably The Virgin Suicides. Both collections remind me how much I love being a girl.
Burberry casting
On the topic of runway shows, Burberry nailed the casting.
Changes, not for the better
Changes have clearly been happening since Trump took office, which makes me fearful. First, there were the MAGA parties, which New York Magazine features writer Brock Colyar does a wonderful job of covering. There is also a recent article on The Washington Post by Hallie Lieberman, which featured trans people arming and educating themselves about guns since Trump’s reelection. “She had heard the stories from her trans friends in red states: being forced to use bathrooms that didn’t match their gender identities; having gender markers switched on their drivers’ licenses,“ the author writes, describing one woman’s experience. While I am not in favor of guns, the article gives us a point of view worth looking at, exploring how those of us who face uncertainty simply want security.
Bisous
I have been thinking a lot about kissing lately, thanks to 1) a crush, and 2) these photos of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky leaving court after he was found not guilty of two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The reason why the latter made me think about kissing was because if you zoom in, you can see the faintest kiss mark on A$AP Rocky’s Saint Laurent suit, while the product, probably Fenty Beauty, remains perfectly intact on Rihanna’s lips.
This made me think about favorite red lippies in the last few years. I love Shiseido’s long-lasting VisionAiry Gel Lipstick in Golden Red, which transforms from gel to a non-drying matte, as well as Sunnies Face classic Fluffmatte in Major. As always, I’m open to suggestions:
Jeremy Strong’s transition from brown to green
The final push for me to watch Succession was this polarizing profile of Jeremy Strong on the New Yorker. Since then, after Googling the actors like I normally do when I’m really into a show, I’ve been following what Strong has been wearing. Turns out, when he is into something, he seems to be as obsessive as the character he plays on the series. I follow @jeremystrongwearsbrown, but it seems he has strayed from his signature brown, now leaning toward green hues. There was the turquoise velvet suit by Loro Piana, which he wore at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, and then this olive green ensemble (complete with a blazer with what seems to be kimono-inspired elements) at the 31st SAG Awards. As someone who understands the comforts of browns and greens (and has also been trying to branch out with color lately), it’s nice to see him experiment.
I can’t stop thinking about…
Dorinda Medley’s mini feature on The Cut. Apparently she wants to DJ?
Went back to Classique after forever, where I had one of my favorites, their martini with saké.
M Magazine listing Leonie Bakery, one of the bakeries I frequent, as one of the best bakeries this year.
See you next week!
